The photographs here show the refurbishment of the Technology Department of a Hartlepool Secondary School. The existing arrangements had surface mounted conduits throughout, carrying electrical and mechanical services, creating ledges and dust / dirt traps throughout the department. The proposed design relined all the wall areas, to provide smooth flat wall faces for easy maintenance. Mechanical extract ventilation & Aircon was introduced to control temperatures and also reduce the presence of dust particles in the atmosphere, resulting from woodworking. Existing single glazed windows were replaced with new double glazed units, and new suspended ceilings and improved task specific lighting installed. New fixed cabinetry and loose furniture was also installed throughout.
The completed works have created an environment which is now temperature stable, and with improved lighting levels. New furnishings and wall and floor treatments also now provide for easier routine maintenance of the department.
