SJR Architects were originally engaged to investigate the feasibility of converting this disused utility building connecting Gilpin and Anstey House, Claymond Court, Norton.

The innovative solution was to lift the roof height by 1 metre to allow insertion of an independent steel frame within the existing envelope to take increased loadings away from the masonary structure.

The extra level allowed a mix of single level and duplex 2 and 3 bed apartments to the build.

The dated brick elevations were also given a contemporary appearance with the use of self-coloured renders and applied artstone detailing, fulfilling the client’s target of 20 units within his budget and timescale.
